Bhutan Background
In April of 1999, Lyonpo Sangay Ndgedup, Minister of Education of Bhutan (currently the Minister of Government.) approved a collaborative media education project to teach 20 students to produce a series of 12- 15 minute narratives or documentaries for the Bhutan Broadcast System (BBS). Joining together, under the direction of Just think Foundation and eMotion Studios from the US — the Youth Guidance Center (YGCS); Information, Education, and Communication for health (IECH), Communications and Audio Production (CAPS), and the BBS are supporting these students in their efforts to tell their stories with new tools.
On September 28th, the students gathered for their first ten-day intensive at the Youth Guidance Center in Thimpu to begin Phase I of the project — pre-production. Covered are the basics: scheduling/Planning, brainstorming, outlining ideas, drafting treatments, script writing, storyboarding, pre-interviewing, crew selection, location scouting.
