Just Think is back to school. We are working with the SFUSD ExCEL program as a city-wide provider of media education to 20 after school sites for the 2008-09 year. Through this partnership we will be using the M.E.A.L. model of training trainers model to implement various activities from Changing The World, YME, Flipping the Script and other Just Think curricula. Just Think will help the Media Production Project to engage in media deconstruction and production for middle and elementary grade levels. Six to eight Youth Media Educators will be placed with this program as a training ground for the skills they learned over the summer.
Teachers gathered for two face-to-face, one-day trainings in August
where they collaboratively explored basic concepts of media education, beginning technology and starter plans for implementing media technology and recruiting young people.
ExCEL Program Leaders, Just Think Media Mentors, and Youth Media Educators meet monthly online and in person to set project goals, manage technology learning and to share resources. During this time site visits and cross-fertilization are fostered by both Just Think and ExCEL. The City-wide program is being supported by; Andrew Greene, Arthur Grau, Chris Palitz, Natalia Calle and Roger Le (YME 2005). Check out Guiding Discussion questions from Changing the World
The Media Production Project will deliver digital story telling for performances during the winter and spring showcases at most school sites. In addition, Access SF has partnered to air student work to over 200,000 cable subscribers throughout San Francisco.
