By special request, Just Think has brought its media education expertise to several international events and programs detailed below.
Local Programs
National Programs
Unfinished Peace, 2000
Just Think was invited to Dubrovnik, Croatia to work with 21 students from the former Yugoslavia, most of whom consider themselves Post-pessimists (PPs). The PPs, aged 16-28, organized 20 chapters in the Balkans focusing on peace through the use of the arts, education and sociology. These students participated in an intensive Just Think training, combining critical thinking skills with digital video tools to tell their stories. The results are six documentary films (3 to 25 minutes long) and two animated shorts.
Bhutan, 1999
The project “Our Bhutan,” provided 14 students with the skills to produce a series of 12-15 minute documentaries for the Bhutanese Broadcast Service (BBS). The objective of the program was to assist Bhutanese students in the mastery of basic critical thinking skills and media production methodologies. The underpinning purpose of these productions was to provide young people in Bhutan with the ability to understand media information and think for themselves.
ZEEP, 1997
Zimbabwe Educational Exchange Program (ZEEP) is a cross-cultural exchange program between high school students from East Palo Alto, CA, and high school students from Chitungwuiza, Zimbabwe. The program uses an intensive international educational exchange approach, whereby students can experience the culture, school and home life of peers in a completely different environment despite their substantive economic similarities. The program has expanded the paradigms of ZEEP students and has initiated a long-term process of real change.
Just Think provided ZEEP technology and new media equipment, production and expertise. For ZEEP 1997-98, Just Think granted portable computers to students and teachers in California and Zimbabwe. Some of the equipment was left in Zimababwe and has been used by the students to communicate via email and the Internet throughout the exchange program. Just Think documented ZEEP 1997-98 through the Internet and video. We assisted the students in the production and daily update of the ZEEP website and co-produced the 1997-98 documentary on the project.
