YME Support Teachers

If you are a Bay Area high school teacher, community worker or after school educator, you can GET PAID to be part of a national youth development project with Just Think.

Youth Media Educators has evolved over several years to become a model for youth-centered, media literacy education. The 2008-2009 program entitled “Pioneers” starts with a six-week summer intensive that teaches 12-20 Bay area students to analyze, produce and disseminate their stories through various media channels.

As an educator or community member, you will participate in 20 hours of parallel training prior to the 08/09 school year. You will share and develop your skills with media arts and entrepreneurship using: Just Think’s Flipping the Script and NFTE Entrepreneurial methods.

During the year, team up with a YME who has been trained by Just Think in media skills, peer education & production during summer. They will continue to be paid through Just Think to conduct peer education with you throughout the 2008/09 academic year.

You will receive ongoing support to integrate media tools into your learning plan from other YME mentors and the Just Think team during the year. You will also be part of Just Think’s ongoing research on integrating media literacy education into the core curriculum in the United States.

You need not have any media experience to participate. What you will need is to complete page three of the YME application and locate an under-resourced student in your community or at your school who will be interested in participating in the program.

NOTE: Just Think will also have high school applicants that will need teacher supporters, so even in the event that you do not have an interested student, you may still apply.
