YME Support Teachers

Youth Media Educators has evolved over several years to become a model for youth-centered, media literacy education. The 2008-2009 program started with a six-week summer intensive that trained 13 Bay area students to analyze, produce and disseminate their stories through various media channels.

Educators and community members affiliated with these YME’s participate in 20 hours of parallel training prior to the 08/09 school year. They share and develop skills with media arts and entrepreneurship using: Just Think’s Flipping the Script and NFTE Entrepreneurial methods.

During the year, they team up with a YME who has been trained by Just Think in media skills, peer education & production during summer. The YME will continue to be paid through Just Think to conduct peer education with you throughout the 2008/09 academic year.

Mentors receive ongoing support to integrate media tools into your learning plan from other YME mentors and the Just Think team during the year. They are also a part of Just Think’s ongoing research on integrating media literacy education into the core curriculum in the United States.
